Standalone Panels

Many of the panels below were made using sgraffito, the drawing technique of scratching through a layer of enamel to reveal the metal or a lower layer of enamel. This technique makes it possible to draw very delicate lines, patterns, and textures. Other panels were created using extra fine tip squeeze bottles to apply lines of liquid enamel directly on the metal. While some panels require just 1 application of enamel and others up to 20, most were made with 3-6 successive layers, each layer requiring metal preparation, enamel application and drying, sgraffito, and finally, firing in the kiln.
