The Alchemy of Copper Oxides

July 5-7, 2017

This workshop will explore the dynamic interaction between white and clear liquid enamel, copper, and heat. The range of colors you can create using just these two enamel and the naturally occurring oxides in your metal will amaze you!

We will start with enamel application (pouring, dipping, brushing) and sgraffito (creating patterns, texture or imagery by scratching through the enamel with sharp tools). Next we will explore firing, adding layers, and firing again, which is where the magic really happens. We will play with the contrast between enamel and bare metal as well as targeted firing to create a large range of unique colors and effects. This approach to enameling can be used to create small jewelry enamels or larger wall panels. All skill levels welcome.
